ABOUT THE PROJECT
DOCUMENTARY VIDEO ART
The Roots, The Branches, The Leaves explores the generational and cultural shift between three generations of the Nguyen family.
Centered on Dinh Nguyen, a grandmother and matriarch, her refugee experience from Vietnam showcases an uprooting of a family tree to bring her three daughters to a better place.
The connection of artists to their cultural identity should be a powerful source of imagery, historical memory, and intellectual impetus from which to create a lifetime of work.

THE
PROCESS
I knew very early on I always wanted to create something that highlighted the generational differences between my grandmother, my mother, and myself.
Thinking about my future, and my future generations, I imagine my children and my grandchildren being born here in the US, much like myself. I have a unique opportunity in this very moment to document the largest cultural and generational shift in my family's timeline.
THE SHOT
The Roots, The Branches, The Leaves was shot, directed, and also edited all by me using the Adobe Creative Suite.
